Since there are such a wide variety of cars, your site must be easy to navigate and information should be tightly grouped by categories. Establishing the categories can be a lengthy process, and it again depends on the purpose of the site. You can group the information not only by manufacturers, makes or models, but also by the condition and mileage of the cars.

Depending on your purpose, you can have one category that is dedicated to cars of a particular make and specific color. Red antique cars of one manufacturer may be separated from white antiques of the same model.  It may not be necessary if your site is just for the fun of sharing information, and may be able to limit the options, but the key that stands out on the most popular car website, is that it offers tons of information and it very easy to navigate.

There can now be an interesting debate as to what are American cars, because offshore manufacturers have long-ago established manufacturing plants in the US, using American workers, and these cars, although made by foreign car makers, are manufactured in the US, but in many instances they are still not considered as American cars.  The perception of what constitutes and American car is not fully disclosed or understood by car buyers as there are also some very serious implications in the areas of pricing, politics and taxes or tariffs.
