Guild Wars 2 Crafting Guide -- An Introduction To Making Your Own Loot

We've put together this Guild Wars 2 crafting guide to introduce you to the crating system in ArenaNet's massively multiplayer role-playing game. While the list for every craftable item is as expansive and vast as the lands of Tyria, this guide gives you an introduction to crafting in Guild Wars 2.

No matter what profession you are and no matter what race you play, you can craft in Guild Wars 2. You can have two crafting disciplines active at a given time, which are activated by speaking to the associated trainer. Trainers are scattered all about Tyria, but the easiest and most obvious place to look is going to be the major cities.
If you're having some trouble finding the trainers, open your map and click the eye icon located in the lower left corner. This will allow you to toggle on and off map icons, including those for crafting trainers. Interacting with a discipline's trainer is simple and painless, and the trainer themselves will be able to explain the discipline in greater detail if you're curious. If you want to know what each crafting discipline produces, here are all eight disciplines broken down: -Read More--

Once you've chosen your discipline, approach the appropriate crafting table and interact with it. This will bring up the crafting window. There are four tabs in the crafting window: the discovery tab, the production tab, the bank tab, and the collections tab. Here are some basic tips and notes for each one.

Discovery

This tab will help you discover the majority of “recipes” for your crafting discipline. Drag ingredients from your inventory to the four boxes in the center of the tab. Discovering recipes also nets larger XP gain than actual production.

Production

Your list of known recipes will appear on the left side of the tab. When you click a recipe, it will display the components needed to craft the item in the main view. If you have all the necessary ingredients, you can produce the item.

Collections

Tired of lugging around all the ingredients and components for crafting on your character? Utilize the collections tab to store them ArcheAge Security Account and access them any item you return to a crafting table. The collections tab can be accessed across all tables, disciplines, and even characters. Don't worry about coming back to a specific one.

Bank

This tab opens your account bank, which, while not explicitly designed for crafting, can be incredibly handy and useful. Your ingredients can be stored in the collections tab, but some things, such as Insignias, can only be stored in the bank. Like the collections tab, it can be accessed at every table and on every character.

All of this knowledge does no good if you can't gather your ingredients. While you'll find a handful of ingredients drop from enemies, if you want to be serious about crafting in Guild Wars 2, you'll need to hunt for them. To do that, you'll need tools. While your discipline trainer will tell you what tool you need for gathering materials, there's an added hook here – a mining pick in Guild Wars 2 won't work for levels 1-80. Instead, you'll need to upgrade as you level up and move through new regions. Below are the descriptors you should look for, as well as the corresponding levels:
Ultimately, crafting in Guild Wars 2 can be as in-depth and involved as you make it. If you want to go out and collect all the materials to craft the ultimate staff, you can do that. Or you can purchase the items you need off the game's Trading Post. There are hundreds of recipes to learn through the game's Discovery system, and you can swap between crafting skills at any time with a few silver, never losing your progression from one to the next.
