If you have just invested a lot of money in a beautiful, new, traditional rug and you’re looking for the best ways to keep that new rug looking like new, we have come up with several tips for you. We understand that you want to protect your invest that you have just made which is why we believe these four tips are essential to any rugs’ longevity.

Sunlight- It has well been documented that sunlight can cause major damage to any rug. The ultraviolet rays from the sun not only cause damage to hardwood floors, they can also cause a lot of damage to rugs as well. Over time you will notice the bright vivid colours of the rug begin to fade and the rug could also begin to unravel. When you are choosing the ideal spot in your home to place your new rug, make sure you keep them away from the sun’s harmful rays.

Cleaning- It has always been said that the best way to keep a rug clean is not to get it dirty in the first place. Well that’s easier said than done, especially if you have children or pets living in the home. When your rugs do get dirty, simply pull out your vacuum cleaner and vacuum your rugs. You can do this as often as needed to keep dirt and debris from building up in your rug fibers. Don’t forget to vacuum under the rugs every couple of months as well as this will certainly keep your floors and rugs looking like new for many years to come.

Moisture- Moisture is certainly one of your biggest enemies. If exposed to moisture over long periods of time your rug will begin to show signs of rotting which includes the growth of mold. Moisture can also cause your new rug to begin to fade quickly, so if your rugs become wet for any reason, be sure to get it dried out immediately. For big jobs don’t hesitate to call in the professionals as they will have the right tools and equipment to get your rugs dried out in no time.

Traffic- High foot traffic is the number one reason why rugs get dirty. Try to strategically place your new rug in an area in the home where foot traffic is less intense. If you are placing a rug in a room where a lot of traffic moves, be sure to keep it away from doors and ask people to wipe their feet before entering your home.
