Curt Schilling asks judge to dismiss lawsuit over $75 million loan

Lawyers representing former Boston Red Sox pitcher and 38 Studios GW2 Gold founder Curt Schilling on Friday asked a Rhode Island judge to dismiss the lawsuit filed against him and other executives of the now-defunct game studio, reports the Associated Press.

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corp. (RIEDC) sued Schilling and other executives last year, claiming they misled the agency and committed fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy. Schilling calls these claims "implausible, " according to the court documents.

The state's lawsuit was in response to a $75 million 2010 loan that brought 38 Studios to Rhode Island from Massachusetts. 38 Studios filed for bankruptcy last summer and is now due to pay the state around $100 million with interest factored in.

Schilling's filing, however, seeks dismissal of the suit on the grounds that 38 Studios did disclose the company's financial needs to the appropriate state officials. The filing also states that it cannot be proven that 38 Studios knowingly made false statements to the RIEDC.

Schilling recently sold one of his famed bloody socks at an auction for $92, 613.
