Enjoying Japanese Traditions in Soaking in Hot Water

When it comes to soaking in hot tubs different countries follow different traditions. Ofuro hot tubs are a variety used in Japan. For Japanese soaking in the hot tub is more than just enjoying the warm water or cleaning oneself. It is more a ritual for them. Most of these Japanese hot tubs are similar to the 2 person hot tub that is being commonly used by small families. Due to Japanese tradition a person who is soaking in hot water has to dip himself up to his chin. In order to do so, these tubs are made a bit deeper than the average wooden hot tubs.

The original Ofuro bath tubs have been made out of cypress wood but the modern ones of the same type are made out of Cedar wood. Cedar has the additional advantage of providing its scent and also being highly resistant to decay. Also, it expands to create tight fitting joints between planks of wood. Though similar to the 2 person hot tub in appearance these Japanese tubs offer much more than that. In the first place, they use hotter water than the normal hot water at 104 degrees Fahrenheit used with ordinary hot tubs.

There is also the possibility of installing your Ofuro hot tubs indoors. But you need to install it in the bathroom in order to prevent the floor getting wet. However, since the temperature of these hot tubs is much more than that of a 2 person hot tub there should be good ventilation where the hot tub is being installed. Due to this very reason the best place to install these Japanese hot tubs is the backyard. This will provide adequate ventilation and at the same time the person who enjoys the hot water is also able to enjoy the environment in the Japanese traditional manner.

Japanese use their Ofuro hot tubs in a different way than you use your 2 person hot tub. Before entering the hot tub they clean themselves applying soap and scrubbing. Afterwards, they wash themselves to make sure that they are perfectly clean. Only then they get into the hot tub and dip themselves little by little until they are in water up to chin height. Afterwards they enjoy the hot water while enjoying the environment. These hot tubs are normally installed in gardens to provide them the right environment to enjoy the hot water. In these tubs no soaps or shampoos are used. However, scents are often added into the water.

When it comes to heating of these Japanese hot tubs the possibility is there to use electric or gas heaters as well. However in case you use wood burners to heat the water your running costs of the tub will be minimal. Also, you will be helping to maintain a cleaner environment. For a small family that is interested in following Japanese traditions you could buy an Ofuro hot tub and get it installed. When you do so, you will be able to enjoy time in the tub whenever you get time.

In case you are interested in following Japanese traditions in soaking in hot water you must buy an Ofuro hot tub instead of 2 person hot tub. You will find it extremely interesting.
