There are a lot of different varieties of floors available but they may require a different type of treatment depending on the kind that you get. If you think about the time and effort that went into installing the floors, you will want to spend your time keeping them in as good of a condition as possible.

Different types of hardwood floors have different types of coatings on the surface. If you care for your floors with the wrong products it may void your warranty. Make sure you follow the guidelines that the manufacturer provides so you don’t have to worry about losing the warranty to your product.

One thing that you can keep in mind is for any type of flooring is that it needs to be protected. You will need to have a mat on the outside and inside of your home to catch all of the dirt before it gets on your floor. Water, grit, and debris come in your home when you enter the home. A good quality doormat will help keep your floors looking better longer. These act as the first line of defence for your floors. It is also important to sweep and vacuum your home regularly. Be careful that if you use a vacuum, it should not have a brush that can damage the floors.

As mentioned above, flooring can be damaged by water. If you mop your floors, make sure you don’t allow water to pool on your floor. You should use a mop that is damp but not soaking wet. Make sure to wring out your mop before you use it to clean your flooring.

If your floors have acrylic and a urethane sealer, just sweep and mop with a manufacturer recommended cleaner. If your hardwood floors have a polyurethane coating, never wet mop. Also make sure that you avoid using cleaners that are petroleum based. If your floor is coated with wax, don’t use water based cleaners. When the shine starts to diminish, it’s time to buff them.
