Posted by SharonEvans on April 11th, 2013

Companies like Woods Trucking & Equipment offer a wide range of oilfield trucking services that you may find that you need, from pipe hauling to crane and dozer pick up delivery or even rig moves using flatbeds. They use some tractor trucks with two or three axles and trailers come equipped with two axles, three axles, four axles, or five axles and are made especially to heavy haul. There are a lot of organizations that either hire, rent or buy these types of vehicles and trailers, like trucking companies, oil and gas drilling companies, power generator companies, or even crane and equipment rental companies and manufactures.

There are a lot of types of trucks and trailers that you can use depending on various industries, so let us talk about them all and see which ones are most appropriate when it comes to oilfield trucking.

First of all, we have light to heavy trailers that have anywhere from two to five axles that are of heavy duty construction to withstand harsh terrain and rough roads.  These are probably the most common trailers used among all types of heavy haul trucks. They have different kinds of options on trailers depending on the work requirement. Some may have roll tail or roller tail setups on a step deck, flat bed, or float trailer.  Others may have pipe rails or bolsters to help secure pipe when being hauled to and from jobsites.  Some heavy haul trailers use a RGN “Release Goose Neck” setup so that heavy equipment can roll off the trailer by disconnecting the tractor truck from the trailer and dropping ramps down so that the unit can be move easily on and off the trailer.  This is the simplest way to load and unload heavy wheeled equipment.  For other equipment such as generators, doghouses, rig off loads, pipe, platforms, or other fixed heavy items it is better to load onto a step deck or drop deck trailer with a long deck.  The low profile trailers make it safer and simpler to load and off load with additional use of a wheel loader or fork lift while working in the oil field yards or drop locations.

Furthermore, there are the boom and winch trucks. They either lift loads onto trailers or can be used by winching loads on and off your trailers.  For example, they can be used to pull heavy mud tanks, generators, pumps, dog houses, or other equipment onto trailer decks with ease when on sled plates.  Also, winch trucks can be used to position heavy equipment over well holes or over trailers when used on poles utilizing a pulley system.

Another type of truck that can be used in the oilfield business is the flatbed hauling truck, which are the smaller cousins of traditional flatbeds. They can be utilized to heavy haul a number of containers or equipment.

Working in the oilfield trucking business can be quite a difficult feat. That is why companies like Woods Trucking and Equipment exist: to help you with your heavy haul.
