Choosing a Spanish wine

Choosing a Spanish wine for dinner, a special occasion, or a certain meal is very easy, as long as you comply with certain requirements that will be presented next.  First, you need to know that wine is an alcoholic beverage made from grapes. It contains acids, nutrients, enzymes, sugars, and obviously water. Because grapes are different from a vine to another, wines are different too. Sometimes, a red wine is the best choice, other times, a white wine is recommended. Learn how to choose your wine by following these simple steps.

A Spanish wine matches very well a Spanish dish, but this does not mean that you cannot purchase a wine made in Spain for a party where mostly French or British dishes will be served. At the same time, acknowledge that a wine cannot be served with all types of dishes.  For example, you may serve wine with “Cuchifritos”, a meal containing fried lamb or goat and garlic, rosemary, basil, and other spices, or with “Paella”, a dish represented mainly by rice combined with shrimps, white fish, clams, etc.  In case of salads white wine would be a most ideal combination.

And what better dish for a Spanish party than an Iberian ham? Iberian ham, also called "jamón ibérico", is a type of cured ham produced mainly in Spain and Portugal. This ham is produced from black Iberian pigs.  Fortunately, European countries benefit of plenty of Spanish restaurants where those interested can find lots of tapa dishes made using this fabulous Spanish product. For those who might choose to eat in, can enjoy an authentic Spanish Iberian ham too.    But let us go back to choosing the appropriate wine for a certain dish.  The rule says to purchase a white wine in case you plan to eat fish, white meats, or dishes containing white sauces; and a red wine, if you have red meats, or dishes containing red sauces, pasta dishes... If the main course is a combination of red meat and white sauce, choose the wine according to your preference; in this case, there is no set rule for what is appropriate.

After selecting the color of the wine, pay attention to its dryness. Some wines are dryer, others are sweeter.  Your choice should be based on which wine complements best your meal and taste.  If we take the aforementioned example, when a wine made in Spain is combined with a ham, also produced in Spain, that is just the start of your Spanish fiesta, food and drink flavor combination and explosion. Try to select a wine, so that the ham is complemented by the wine, and enhances a richer intensity of flavor combination in your mouth.

A fiesta cannot be the same without a  Spanish wine  http://www.spanish-wine-food.co.uk/wines.html  and several slices of  Iberian ham  http://www.spanish-wine-food.co.uk/ham.html .
