GameStop's digital distribution manager departs for venture capital firm

Steve Nix, GameStop's general manager of digital distribution, left the Buy AION Kinah company to join Dallas Venture Partners, a venture capital firm, Gamesindustry. biz reports.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Nix has taken on the position of firm adviser at Dallas Venture Partners. The company aims to be the "financial partner of choice for technology entrepreneurs seeking to build a world-class business, " its official website reads.

Nix told Gamesindustry. biz that he is "not leaving the gaming space. "

"I enjoyed my time at GameStop as GM of digital distribution and being able to help grow digital revenue at a 48 percent compound annual growth rate during my two years there to $630 million, " Nix said. "After a decade of being on the content and technology development side, I really appreciated the opportunity to learn the 'other side' of the retail video game business as an executive at GameStop. "

While at GameStop, he created the GameStop PC Digital Download Award, which promoted the winner from the Indie Game Challenge through the retailer. Nix was also involved in GameStop's efforts to court PC gamers. Earlier this year, a representative from GameStop confirmed to Polygon that the Indie Game Challenge is on hiatus.

Before his tenure at GameStop began in 2011, Nix was the digital distribution general manager at id Software, developer of the Doom and Quake franchises.
