Two Marx brothers, Luis and David founded Marx Toys in the year 1919 with a declared motto to “give the customer a lot more toy for much less money." Company was an instant success and it could survive the Great Depression and the World War II. The vintage toys from the stable of Marx are much sought after collector’s item today. Company closed its operations in 1978 and by that time, they had several manufacturing plants operating in different parts of USA. War sets containing toys like soldiers, tanks and trains were hot sellers during hey days of Marx.

They became market leaders in toy manufacturing and Louis Marx was referred to as ‘Toycoon’ indicating hios place in the industry. Company started specializing in military toys after the World War II and the reason may be the interest of the owner Louis who was a sergeant in US army during World War I.

Arrival of information technology and computer games slowly decreased the interest in war games and toy soldiers and this lead to the closure of the company in 1978. However, it is more than three decades since the company went out of business, the interest in their toys had returned and today they are coveted vintage collectibles. Play sets resembling war was the masterpiece of Marx toys and the soldiers and armories were replicas of the wars of various periods. Earlier, toys were manufactured using metals but after World War II, they started using high quality plastic for manufacturing their toys. Both metal and plastic toys are of great demand today.
