Looking For Experienced Machine Embroidery Designers!

Posted by DedeHallett on June 24th, 2013

When we moved into our new home, the yards were beautifully landscaped, and I get a lot of comments on my beautiful home. Unfortunately, these are mostly tropical style plants, and their beauty is of their own making! Other than watering, I have no idea how to care for them. It is fascinating, though, to watch the more familiar berry bushes and fruit trees come to life as the season progresses. For now, we have more blackberries and lemons than we can use; later there will be plums, and soon I will have to research recipes for persimmons, which are totally new to me.

All of this reminds me when I was new to the world of machine embroidery. I hadn’t even seen a machine in action before setting mine up for the first time. So exciting and bewildering at the same time. Without the internet and what quickly became my favorite online embroidery design gallery, I would have been completely lost. Just as I have no idea what to do with a persimmon right now, back then I had no idea what to do with my embroidery machine once I got bored with the few designs that came with it.

I quickly learned that I would need more equipment in order to get the most from my machine. With the added expenses, I was so grateful to the many digitizers who offered free embroidery designs! This allowed me to stitch to my heart’s content without breaking my budget! Many of these designers are still among my favorites today, especially those who were groundbreaking in introducing new techniques like free-standing lace and 3D objects. This modern gal wanted more than just flowery doilies!

Just as I had when learning to quilt, I also had to learn a whole new vocabulary for embroidery. Besides the huge variety of embroidery supplies available, I also had to learn about thread, needles and stabilizers, all of which could make or break a project. Because I love learning by being hands-on, this was a fantastic period.

Now, I create lovely embroidery patterns as casually as I pick berries every afternoon. It’s just something I do. When I get compliments on my stitchery, I am as quick to compliment the digitizer for their talent as I am to discount any compliments I get for my pretty yards. I feel that so much talent has occurred before my hands ever began that the compliments belong somewhere else!

I always enjoy learning; whether it is which threads for machine embroidery work best for a project or where and when to water a specific plant, there is always so much of interest in life. The interest sparks creativity, which then creates beauty. Beauty, of course, adds the real interest to every life.

It’s the season of growth in the garden. Enjoy it! And never forget that we have seasons of growth for ourselves. It all serves a purpose of fulfillment no matter which form it may take in your personal journey.
