What would you choose: plastic bags or paper bags?

With the need to store things and carry them in resistant packaging, plastic bags have appeared as an optimal solution for the problem. But they are not the only packaging solution which has been preferred by people; paper bags are just as used for all sorts of packaging situations. Each design has its own advantages, so deciding between the two is more a matter of functionality rather than anything else.

In terms of durability, people have always preferred plastic bags, since they can be used in pretty much any situation and for a very long time, as long as the material holds. The bags are created out of polyethylene and have been used in all industries. As such, there are different types of plastic packaging designs, varying in size, design, material, strength and functionality. Since they are less expensive than other types of bags, they are the preferred choice for a very large number of people. Unless subjected to greater forces, plastic bags can usually hold pretty well, so they can be used and reused as many times as wanted. The trade industry, buying and selling items, has been using these bags constantly as they are cheaper and provide durability. Plus, they are easily produced and can be made to look great.

On the other hand, paper bags are popular mainly because of the ecological trends and the awareness created around polluting the environment. Lots of industries use paper bags, and the typical image associated with them is either a paper bag full with groceries, or a gift bag made out of paper. Paper bags can look very good and do offer durability just like plastic ones, but to a lower degree, in comparison. However, they are a bit more expensive than regular bags made out of plastic. In general, bags made out of paper are somewhat more sophisticated and will probably continue to be used in the retail business, in the gifts industry and shopping. Each business or individual client can choose his own favorite, considering these factors. In terms of function and practical aspects, it’s clear that plastic bags offer a better solution for long term, due to their durability.

Also, firms that produce packaging are promoting a type of reusable plastic bag, which is designed to help the environment and reduce litter. Each industry will probably choose the packaging that offers the best results. Bags made out of plastic will continue to exist, since they are very easy to produce and last for a long time. Since they don’t degrade as easily as paper, they can be reused many times.  A grocery bag for example can be used for litter, or simply for packaging different products. Thus their life span is greater, which means less money spent on new bags. Both types of bags will continue to be used, although plastic ones will probably be the choice for major industries, while paper will be the desired materials for those interested in the environmental process and retail businesses.

The different needs for packaging have different solutions: you can choose plastic bags or paper bags for your personal or professional use.
