Founded in 1984, St. Thomas University School of Law is one of only three ABA (American Bar Association)-accredited Roman Catholic law schools in the Southeast and one of four Miami Law Schools. The School of Law is also a member of the Association of American Law Schools and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Located on the university’s main campus, the law school features a multi-level library and a moot court amphitheater in addition to classrooms and offices for student organizations.

With only 678 students enrolled in Law School Miami program, class sizes at St. Thomas University are small, which facilitates higher-quality discussions. In fact, 62 percent of the Miami Law School classes have fewer than 20 students, which allows for more individualized attention from professors, 90 percent of whom hold the highest degrees in their fields and have earned their law degrees from some of the nation’s most prestigious universities. And with only slightly more than 200 students graduating from St. Thomas’ law school every year, it makes it easy for students to get to know each other.

Recognized by both The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report as the fourth most diverse law school in the nation, St. Thomas University Law School Miami boasts 33 student organizations, including the Black Law Student Association (BLSA), which focuses on the needs of black law students and ways to respond to them appropriately; the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, an organization that assists women in the legal field; and the Gay and Lesbian Law Student Association, which is comprised of a group of students committed to overcoming discrimination in the job market based on sexual orientation and to providing them with career opportunities.

Nestled between two major metropolitan cities, Miami and Fort Lauderdale, St. Thomas University’s career resource center has access to numerous clinical, externship and internship opportunities for its law students. The Miami Law School center provides students and alumni with such services as one-on-one counseling, an online job-posting system, on-campus interviewing and a series of programming/workshops scattered throughout the year. While the School of Law places a special emphasis on making sure its students are prepared for the legal profession upon graduation, its main priority is not to teach its students how to become good lawyers rather to teach them how to be good people.
