Guild Wars 2's latest Living World update makes new content old school.

Guild Wars 2 has been in a state of revelry recently. In addition to the Queen's Speech and Clockwork Invasion double-event that is currently going on, ArenaNet will be celebrating the first anniversary of the game with a Birthday Bash at PAX. ArenaNet also just released the Guild Wars 2 Heroic Edition, extending the olive branch to players who enjoyed the free trial weekends that ArenaNet hosted this past week. Determined to remain light-hearted throughout the celebration, the Living World development team recently announced the latest theme of theme of their next update, the retro-style Super Adventure Box.

Returning from the April Fools' Day event earlier this year, the Super Adventure Box embraces old school gaming, from 8-bit characters and environments to Princess Miya, whom is oddly reminiscent of Zelda or Peach. The Living World update also includes plenty of old-school events, such as the "World 2" map challenge, and Tribulation Mode, a ridiculously challenging mode for all zones in Worlds 1 and 2.

Players who complete the challenges will be rewarded with retro-themed Super Weapon Skins, or the material necessary to create the "King Toad" or "Storm Wizard" weapons. Players who complete all of the challenges can also collect their very own Mini Princess Miya.

The update also comes with some notable new features for the classic content in Guild Wars 2. The Weaponsmith, Artificer, and Huntsman professions are having their skill cap boosted to 500, and the recipes for new crafted Ascended weapons will be available for players to locate and create. Legendary weapons are also receiving substantial updates, including stat boosts, an Offensive Infusion slot, and the ability for bearers to choose different stats on their legendary weapons. To top it all off, many legendary items are also getting aesthetic upgrades. Finally, ArenaNet is making some changes to the Magic Find stat. Instead of being an equipment-based stat, Magic Find is now an account-wide bonus that can be built up using Essences of Luck, which can be earned by salvaging Fine or Masterwork items.

The Super Adventure Box promises to be another great addition to the game's already long list of Living World content and after a year of keeping pace, ArenaNet is showing no signs of stopping or even slowing down. Guild Wars 2 is definitely in the lime-light right now, drawing attention as one of the fastest content-producing games on the market. Even better, with all of the extra love that is being put into the Heroic Edition of the game, there's never been a better time for a new player to step into Tyria's Living World.
