Dogs are natural born explorers. And sometimes, despite your best efforts, there may be a situation where your dog gets loose. While this is something you never want to have happen – it’s extremely important to be prepared.
Here are three ways to be sure your dog can be ID’d:
Dog Tags
One of the first things you do when you get your dog is purchase identification tags. Most pet supply stores carry them, and some even engrave them in house or have a machine that allows you to make it yourself.
On the tag, be sure to include the dog’s name and your phone number. If space allows, you can also include an email address and/or street address.
Customized Dog Collar
A customized dog collar is not only a great fashion statement – it can also include important information about your pet. Most customized collars allow room to include your dog’s name and phone number.
Microchip
A determined dog can get out of its collar. This may be how your dog got loose! So dog tags and/or a customized collar won’t help in this situation.
Microchipping your dog enables your pet to be identified if it’s turned into a vet or animal shelter. They’ll scan the pet for the chip and your contact information will come up.

If your dog isn’t already, be sure to have some form of identification on your dog as soon as you can. In the event your dog is lost – it can help reunite you with your loyal friend.
