Despite all the qualities of the iPhone, it’s still a man-made device, subject to failure of components due to the usual wear and tear or just because of improper usage. One of the parts of the iPhone which is most subject to wear and tear is the home button, and the wear on the flex cable is one of the leading issues Apple repair Montreal companies face. If your warranty is void, and your Home button isn’t working properly, the best way to solve the issue is to take it to a reputable Apple repair Montreal company. However, if for some reason you’re unable to use the help of a good Apple repair Montreal company, you can use this do-it-yourself guide to try this Apple repair by yourself.

First of all, ensure you have the tools needed to do a good Apple repair job. If you don’t have them, your only choice is to go to an Apple repair Montreal company, as without both tools and experience you’re very likely to screw the Apple repair job up. What you will need for this Apple repair mission is a replacement home button flex cable, a security screwdriver, a spudger set and a #00 Phillips screwdriver. If you have all of these tools, move on to the Apple repair.

Power off the iPhone. Remove the screws on the sides of the dock connector port with a security screwdriver. Then lift off the back plate and set it aside. Next is the battery and the grounding clip. Remove the screws holding the battery using a #00 Phillips screwdriver. Remember which screw goes where, as they’re different length. Then, remove a grounding clip underneath the battery clip, but make sure you remove the screw with a spudger before prying a clip out, as otherwise the screw can get lost. After that, use a spudger to pry the clip upwards so it pops up. Finally, pry up the battery, but do it very gently, as it is glued with a lot of adhesive, so you might end up bending it.

On to the top logic board shields. Unscrew the four screws that hold the top silver shield, and a screw holding the black shield in place. Then, lift first the silver shield, and then the black shield out of the phone. Carefully disconnect the seven cables on the logic board. Then lift the rear-facing camera out of the iPhone.

Unscrew the shield protecting the dock connector cable with a #00 Phillips screwdriver. Then pry up the dock connector cable with a spudger and peel it back. Remember to be gentle, or you risk damaging the cable. When the cable is peeled back, pry up the round connection of the cellular antenna with a spudger. Then, remove the SIM card and tray. After that, move on to the logic board. Unscrew the top, middle, and bottom left screws with a #00 Phillips screwdriver. Remove the top right and bottom screws with a flat head screwdriver. Take the logic board out. Finally, remove the loud speaker and vibrator assembly, as well as the digitizer and LCD assembly. You should now have access to the Home button flex cable. Replacing it is fairly straightforward, and after you do it, your Apple repair adventure is finished. If you’re not sure you’re up to it after reading the article, take the phone to an Apple repair Montreal company.

If your home button isn’t functioning properly, the cause is most likely a worn out cable. Try to do this Apple repair job yourself or better yet, take the iPhone to a reputable Apple repair Montreal company.
