TREATMENT OF HEADACHES

Most of the time headaches require home treatment without a visit to the doctor. Start home treatment as soon as you can. Be sure to review any other home treatment for any other symptoms you may have.

 

If your doctor has a specific treatment for your headaches, start them as soon as you can. Be sure to follow his instruction on any prescription medication for your headache.

 

For mild pain without other symptoms try the following:

?rest in a quiet dark room.

?place a cold compress on your fore head.

?do not smoke, drink alcohol o r use illegal drugs.

?try a non prescription medication to help relieve your headache.

?ibuprofen

?naproxen

?ketoprofen

?aspirin

 

Precaution on non prescription medication

 

Do not use non prescription medication more than two times in a week. If you feel you need to use pain medication often, discuss it with your doctor.

Use but do not exceed the recommended dose.

Carefully read and follow all label instruction on medication bottle or box.

Do not take a medication if you have had an allergic reaction to it in the past.

Do not give aspirin to anyone younger than 20 unless you have advised by a physician to do so.

If you are pregnant call your doctor before taking any medication.

 

Alternative therapy

 You may be able to reduce the severity of your headaches by trying:

1.     Relaxation exercises.

2.     heat such as hot water bottles, heating pads or hot bath

3.     Ice such as ice pack applied to the back of the neck or temples.

4.     massage therapy and biofeedback which can reduce muscle tension in your neck and shoulder,
