LED Grow Lights The Facts

Posted by bsledlee on November 26th, 2013

There are some very good reasons to choose LED grow lights over other kinds. First of all they cost less to operate. In fact they cost a lot less. They allow their owners to realize a 40 to 75% decrease in the cost of electricity when they switch to H162D 350W LED grow lights from HPS or MH type grow lights. This is because of their extremely high efficiency. Conventional grow lights waste about 67% of the electricity they use by emitting light that the plants can’t use and heat. Using the right LED grow lights for your application will result in efficiency of 90% or better.

The Heat Issue
LED grow lights give off very little heat. The two main benefits of this are that they don’t burn the leaves of the plants you are growing, and they don’t dry them out the way conventional grow lights (which give off a lot of heat) tend to do. Another benefit of the low heat is that you won’t need to buy a heat removal system. Most LED grow lights have built in fans to cool the base of the chip, which is where the small amount of heat that they do make occurs.

Plants Need This Light
Research has shown that plants require light in two parts of the spectrum. They need orange-red light for photosynthesis to run most efficiently and provide food for the growth of leaves and stems, and blue-violet light to stimulate flowering and reproduction. The ranges of these colors of light that are most useful are called Photosynthetically Active Radiation frequencies. All you really need to understand though, is that Led grow lights can now be designed to supply precisely these light frequencies or colors that are best used by plants.

No Extra Expenses For Accessories
Other accessories that you won’t need to buy are ballasts and reflectors. Buying heat removal systems, ballasts and reflectors can really add up in extra expenses. Plus, it’s just that many more things that can break and need replacement.

Long Life LED Grow Lights
Did you know that LED grow lights have an exceptionally long lifetime? They average 50,000 to 100,000 hours before needing to be replaced. HPS lights in comparison need replacement as often as every 5,000 hours.

The Obvious Choice
When you add up the advantages of LED grow lights, you can see what a good idea using them is. Plants get the light they really need, and there is no danger of them being burned. You even save on watering. They cost much less to operate, and they last longer than any other type of grow light on the market. No added expenses for reflectors, ballasts, and heat removal systems. They cost less in the long run. There just is no question about it. LED grow lights are the obvious choice.
