Is There A Surge In Plastic Surgery Requests During COVID-19?
Posted by southernkogarah on September 16th, 2020
Usually it can be a big decision to have cosmetic surgery done. Many people certainly consider it at some point in their life, but it might seem like too big of a commitment. But in the COVID-19 era, where most professionals have more flexible work schedules and a little more control over how they are seen, plastic surgery in Australia has seen a steady rise of popularity.
One reason for this is that many short-term downsides to cosmetic surgery are effectively quelled by the current circumstances. Whereas it can be embarrassing to return to work after a plastic surgery operation wearing a mask to hide the recovery period, remote work arrangements prevents this from being much of a concern. Similarly, more flexible work arrangements and reduced productivity expectations means more spare time, and more opportunity to book a visit to the clinic.
A downside many people have experienced with the greater emphasis on professional videoconferencing is the heightened focus on our physical, particularly facial, appearance. Office workers are now finding themselves staring at themselves reflected through a webcam for hours each day, which can heighten awareness of any perceived imperfections. Having to focus on faces for so much of one’s day can certainly drive increased demand for cosmetic surgery.
While we are all looking forward to the lifting of lockdown, and for public spaces to be fully safe again, it does mean that the average person has saved substantial amounts of money in 2020 which would have otherwise been spent on travel, clothing or entertainment. These patterns mean that most people have not made a luxury purchase this year, and have not found many outlets to properly treat themselves. Compared to travel or entertainment, cosmetic surgery remains one of the luxuries activities which is still fully safe to partake in.
For these reasons and more, it shouldn’t be too surprising that many Australians are investing in their confidence and opting for plastic surgery. The unique and unprecedented social changes brought about by COVID-19 have made 2020 an opportune time to get a cosmetic touch-up.Also See: Cosmetic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Covid 19, Work Arrangements, Surgery, Cosmetic, Work
