Hotel Stay and the Seamy Side of It

We always look forward to a pleasant stay in any hotel. From the smiling front desk manager to the sweet inanities such as fresh towels, passionate room service and chocolates on pillows the courtesies may be numerous. But beneath the glitters there is a darker side to hotels. You may not know there are many things which you wish never happened in hotel rooms. But they do happen and is a hard reality.

Bad Housekeeping: When you check into a hotel room a poorly made bed is slightly tolerable and understandable. But when tales of horrendous housekeeping unfold you may feel like running out. There are instances of housekeeping staff even using the toothbrush of guests to clean toilets, or applying toilet brush to scrub the tub.

Sex: Most people find hotel rooms a convenient place to experience sex. Hotels attract all sorts of people who include business men and women, statesmen, athletes, couples, singles, actors, lovers, gays, lesbians, prostitutes and what not. After the heated sex all you can hope is that the housekeeping team cleans it proper sans any vestiges.

Drugs: Never be surprised to know that hotels are the epicenter of drug use. It is not just the booze from the mini bar or snorting. It is hard core action like shooting drugs all over the hotel room. It is often the expensive hotels that become the venue for addicts to indulge in heroin no matter even if the rooms cost $700 a night.

Guns: We do read news of airports frisking passengers attempting to bring guns on board and they get stopped during security checks. But despite metal detectors many hotels have guests and visitors roaming with firearms.

Crimes: Death can happen anywhere and hotel rooms are no exception to it. Dying of natural cause is understandable but when someone getting stabbed or shot or smothered in a hotel room it may turn bizarre. Fact is, it happens regularly.

Sickness: Hotel rooms often turn sick rooms when diseases stalk the guests. It may be cold sometimes holding up the guest in the room for days together hiking the demand for boxes of tissues and toilet paper. Food poisoning is another hazard in many hotels.

Babies: Bad habits of parents such as changing diapers on the bed, bathing baby butts in the bathroom sink, spreading milk on the floor and everywhere are common sense.

Pets: Pets can mess up any hotel precincts. They will leave their dander everywhere including pee and poop behind the curtains. Fleas are another menace from pets.

Bedbugs: The stench of someone having smoked in the hotel room before you can be detected easily. You can also pull up the housekeeper for a poor job if the bed is bad. Sometimes you may not even know the bed bugs until you are back home and see little red welts and rashes showing up.

So when you are checking into a hotel during a trip to any city. Make sure you find the best hotel hopefully free of all the problems discussed above.
