How has Penguin changed link building strategies?

Posted by donaldmiller on December 19th, 2013

Google Penguin has sure changed the way the world does SEO. All those uses of link farming, paid links and using anchor texts are giving way to natural links. But even in natural links there have been some changes worth mentioning and any SEO company of repute would’ve started getting their link building strategies right. Recently I was going through an interview by one of the top SEO experts of the country and couldn’t help but mention some of his points in this article. As a website owner or SEO expert you will find that the information is rather enlightening as far as SEO is concerned.

We’ve been hearing that backlinks from .edu sites are the most valuable backlinks and one has to strictly consider the anchor text percentage and so on. While all this remains true the focus today has shifted to being natural. Keep in mind that I’m not saying that a link has to look natural – it has to be natural.

Today all the website owners and SEO experts are looking to react and respond to Google updates. Panda, Penguin and recently Hummingbird have created this fear factor among SEO companies and their clients. They are constantly thinking of the penalties and the blacklisting and the fact that Google has kicked out multiple websites from its search results. If these are what we call link building strategies then one should have a relook and a rethink.

What people forget that the focus remains on content and all good link building strategies should focus on content. If your website doesn’t have something interesting and useful to offer and if you don’t have things to say about your website and share with others then no amount of SEO can do anything for it. Keep content in focus for every word that you publish and you can get some great fans online.

Link building cannot happen in isolation and hence link building strategies should always focus on networking and conversations. As a website owner you should find out more about your industry in the online space. Look out for opportunities to join forums and conventions and seminars and who knows you may be the next speaker during one of these events. And once you climb that podium and get the chance to tell the world about what you do then your website is bound to attract some serious visitors. And this is when you should be ready with some superb content.

While everyone will continue to worry about anchor texts and Google page rank link building strategies should focus on the other things. Why think about repercussions when you can avoid the situation? If you are honest with your SEO techniques and offer genuine quality content to your visitors you can rest assured Google will reward you for this. You will not need any special strategy then. Everything will fall in place automatically and all you will need to do is maintenance work. Ensure you have a proper SEO partner for all this.

Your link building strategies should keep Google in focus but not get ruled by it. A great offer this Christmas – get 25% Bonus Links for Christmas!
