Nothing speaks better than quality and reliability, and as more often than not these two go hand in hand, when buying welding supplies for our operation, whether we’re manufacturers, or whether we’re just interested in reselling such products, we need to make sure that we are working with a reliable and experienced company that supplies such goods as mig and tig welding equipment and supplies.
As there are more than one ways of welding things together, knowing what type of welding is better suited for our operation is essential, and we must find this out before purchasing anything. The most common methods used for welding are stick welding, also called Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), MIG welding (Metal Inert Gas), and TIG welding (Tungsten Inert Gas). Each of these methods has its advantages and disadvantages. For stick welding the advantages are that it’s very simple to do while it’s also quite inexpensive, and it can be used in al positions and most environments, with the downside that the welds have a rough appearance. Metal Insert Gas (MIG) welding can also be used to weld in all positions, generally being used on metals such as stainless steel, mild steel and aluminum. While we won’t have to deal with slag, as in the case of stick welding, we will need to work in a controlled environment.
While stick and MIG welding produce a certain amount of toxic smoke or fumes, TIG welding does not share those disadvantages. It also does not produce any slag, being able to be used to weld in any position it is the ideal choice when it comes to welding in small, confined spaces. The only downside, if it can be called that, is the fact that it is harder to achieve, requiring a lot of skill and experience in order to be done properly. We need to make sure that we are at the correct angle when welding, and we also need to make sure that we are using the right filler and that the weld-pool is homogeneous. For jobs that don’t require that much complexity and in which the aspect of the weld doesn’t matter that much stick welding is a good choice. However, when it comes to making welds that have a certain finesse and a good general aspect, we need to rely on the other methods available to us.
Getting the right tools for the job at hand is much like getting the right food for our body. While some types of welding supplies can be used in most cases, just like we would be able to eat just about anything we want, if we want the best results, then we will need to use specific products. When it comes to certain types of materials that need to be welded, as well as to the specific resistance that the weld needs to have, as some items will be used in conditions of physical stress or strain, we will need to consider different types of welding. MIG welding is great for stainless steel, mild steel and aluminum, while TIG welding will offer us varying results depending on the quality of the weld, and on the filler that is used.
