Vinyl T shirt printing involves producing digitally cut vinyl transfers for custom printing of uniforms and work wear. It uses a vinyl sheet, which is cut and applied to the garment by means of a heat press. While vinyl can be produced in a wide variety of colours, it can only be used for solid or two-colour designs, unlike other printing techniques that allow for fiddlier, finer, and more colourful designs, such as those with small logos and/or writing.

When using this technique of printing, you will need a polyurethane vinyl sheet or film, a heat transfer material that is suitable for application to a wide variety of fabrics. This material is very durable against washing, and even the stress and rigors of tough sports, making it appropriate for use in sportswear and similar types of clothing. The polyurethane sheet has to be cut to produce the design to be heat pressed onto the garment of choice.

Because of the extremely meticulous process invoiced, vinyl printing is only suitable for printing solid colour or 2-colour designs. The artwork must also be in vector format for easier cutting. When producing cad cut vinyl, the artwork is sent backwards (in mirror image) to the digital vinyl cutter (a special machine that resembles a large printer), which then cuts out the pattern using a blade. Once the image or design is etched into the vinyl, it can then be removed from the cutter until you are left with the design.

A heat press is required to apply the cut design onto the garment. You need an ideal temperature to facilitate the transfer successfully, and this temperature depends on the garment or the vinyl you are using. The approximate temperature that many vinyl printers use is 160c. Once the garment is placed on the base place of the heat press, the design can then be positioned for transfer. With the image in its proper position, the heat clamp is then put in place for about 10 to 15 seconds to secure the transfer. Once the backing film is removed, you will be left with a perfectly printed design.

Vinyl shirt printing is a common process and many companies use it for producing different kinds of digitally printed designs on clothing. Check the web and you will find many options for custom vinyl printing on shirts and other types of garments.
