Specialized Treatment of Various Addictions Available in Addiction Clinics

Addictions are often tricky, and each individual suffering from a certain type of dependency requires a specialised approach in order to beat his or her condition. As such, there are numerous types of specialised treatment facilities that deal with specific kinds of addictions and behavioural disorders, ranging from alcohol dependency to drug addiction, eating disorders, and many more. Some offer a multi-disciplinary approach, providing tailored solutions for different kinds of addictions. Knowing what type of treatment is best for the client is very important in ensuring successful rehab.

The treatment options for different kinds of addiction are varied, and they depend on a wide range of factors such as the type of substance abused, its effects on the person's health, well-being, lifestyle, and relationships, as well as the client's attitude towards rehab, along with many other factors that affect the success or failure of a program.

Different treatment centres make use of different kinds of treatment approaches in their programs, but all have these basic elements to help promote sobriety among clients:

  1. Detox and withdrawal symptom management – the main aim of detox is rid the body of addictive substances. Doing so may cause a wide range of withdrawal symptoms, many of which can be extremely difficult to manage without proper medical supervision. Gradually reducing the intake of substances is an effective way of managing withdrawal, but this also means an extended period of detoxification. Abruptly stopping intake of substances, on the other hand, often causes severe withdrawal symptoms, which is why rapid detox should be done with proper monitoring and supervision of qualified professionals.

  2. Treatment programs – depending on client behaviour, addiction level, and type of substance abused, treatment programs can be residential or outpatient in nature and procedures and therapies must be tailored to the specific needs of the subject.

  3. Psychotherapy – one of the most important parts of treatment, psychotherapy, counselling sessions, and similar types of therapies are implemented to help clients cope with cravings, as well as help them find ways to avoid their addictions and deal with the possibility of relapse.

  4. Self-help groups – in addition to group, family, and individual counselling sessions, finding a self-help group is also an effective means of coping up with addictions. Many facilities recommend being a part of self-help groups so that clients can meet people dealing with similar problems and issues in life, therefore boosting motivation to stay sober.
