Functional winter clothing for women

Posted by TheClassicBoutique on January 14th, 2014

Every time the subject of women’s clothing is brought up, it will almost always be followed up with a discussion of the current trending season. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the summer season, which is known for many new fashion trends, or whether it’s the cold summer where people are more concerned about keeping warm. Maybe it’s because women are naturally more inclined to try and keep up with fashion trends than their male counterparts or it may simply be due to the fact that every woman wants to look beautiful and attractive regardless of the season.

Winter is the month to worry about the functionality of the clothes you wear (with regards to their ability to keep you warmer throughout the season) than about keeping up with fashion trends. Failing to do this, you may just end up freezing while shining in the cold one day. So below are a few practical tips that should help you stay warm in winter;

- Wear scarves; it is easy to look at ladies scarves as clothing accessories that do not help much in keeping you warm but are only meant to accentuate other items of clothing. But, did you know that you can lose up to sixty percent of your body heat through exposure of your head and neck regions? Covering these places up using ladies scarves essentially helps you conserve more heat within your body than a jacket would.

- Water proof jackets; when it comes to buying jackets for winter dressing, never go for jackets made out of cotton and other similar materials that absorb water otherwise you may end up wet and miserable outdoors on a chilly winter day. Look for ladies waterproof jackets

- Wearing cotton shirts in winter is probably not a very good idea especially if you are planning to venture outdoors. Cotton absorbs moisture and retains it within its fibres so if you get caught in the rain or snow while wearing a cotton shirt then you can be sure you will have a very miserable experience. However, if you feel that you absolutely have to wear cotton shirts then it is much wiser to opt for the cotton polo shirts instead of other types of cotton shirts. Al least the cotton polo shirts will be able to provide you with additional warmth since they cover your neck, as well.

- Buy some ladies tights; for a cold winter evening spent indoors with your family, investing in ladies tights is an excellent idea. Look for ladies tights made from materials that do not retain moisture but rather simply move it away from the body to the other side from where it can evaporate. Fleece is one such material and would be ideal for this.
