5 Ways Your Business Website Can Be Better Today

Posted by sinexJackie on January 15th, 2014

Websites are now basically required for a business to succeed. When an individual wants to learn about a company, they typically go to their website. We are assuming that you already have a website, which is why you are reading this article.  (If your business does not have a website – start your web design project immediately, because not having one means missed opportunity.)

So how can you make your website better? There are certain things that can be done to make your website more efficient, effective, and more useful overall for your visitors, increasing their potential to convert into customers.

Here are five steps you can take to make your website more effective right now:

Embed Social Sharing Tools

This is a great way to help spread your name. Sharing tools are small buttons that allow a visitor to post a link to your website on their social media page, such as Facebook or Twitter. By sharing your content, your website and business can attract new visitors and potential clients from those networks of people and their friends. It does not take much time to add the icons to your website. If you have a website with a software like WordPress there are plugin tools to help you. There are also services like Share This you can embed.

Add a Blog

A blog is a place for you to write about your interests, company news, or anything in-between. Small businesses will want to create a blog section and write articles weekly. You can use this opportunity to inform readers about certain issues or advice in your business’s respective field. This creates fresh content about your business on a regular basis and gives your visitors a reason to keep coming back.  It also attracts search engines.

Add a News/Press Section

With this section, readers will be kept up-to-date in the affairs of your company, from business deals to milestones. It helps your visitors to know what is going on with your company. News posts also give off a sense of relevance and commitment – showcasing all that you are doing shows your readers that you are not only here to stay, but you plan to grow and become better. Press releases, awards and even new hire announcements are appropriate for this section.

Cite Examples with Visuals

Depending on your business, having images or videos of what your company does can help those who view your site have a better sense of what it is that you do. Saying that you “remodel” is nice, but showing past examples of your remodeling work will leave a bigger impact. With bold images, your viewers will know exactly what you are capable of and what they can expect if they decide to work with you.   You can go further by describing case study projects and including quotes from the client.

Promote You

Potential clients will want to get to know your company - its history and those behind it – before they decide to work with you. Some websites already have a section like this, but it severely lacks important information. Make sure to have a section devoted to the company’s origins, explaining how it came to be and why. Adding a list of the persons in charge of the main areas of the company, along with pictures, can help build a connection. Putting a face to a name makes things familiar.  Lengthy bios might not get read by all visitors, so it is a good idea to include a short version about the person with their name and title and photo first.  You can link to a longer section with the employee’s full bio if you wish.  Some company’s include great videos with a personal welcome message from the owner or manager.

Implementing these features today can help move your website from ‘good’ to ‘great’ and win over more customers and partners.
