Cleaning And Disinfecting Waiting Area Seating

Waiting area seating can harbor many germs. The only way to keep germs from spreading, and diseases from becoming epidemic, is to clean, and disinfect, your waiting area seating on a regular basis. This cleaning and disinfecting does not have to take long amounts of time, and if it is done regularly it will not.

Waiting area seating should be properly cleaned at least once every two weeks. By proper cleaning I mean that the seats should be completely wiped down using a soft cloth, and warm soapy water. Every surface of the seat should be wiped down with the cloth. This will eliminate dirt, and grime, and will possible help prevent stains from occurring on the seats.

You should use a mild cleaner to wipe the waiting area seating with. Harsh detergents can actually harm the materials the seats are made from. Mild cleansers will remove the dirt if they are applied correctly.

If you have a stain on one of the seats you can use a mixture of baking soda, and peroxide, to help lift the stain away. You mix a small amount of baking soda with just enough hydrogen peroxide to form a paste. Dab the paste onto the area that is stained, and wait about 15 minutes before rinsing away the peroxide and baking soda. If you use this to remove stains you will not have to worry about anyone having a reaction to the chemicals in the stain remover, or to the fumes from the stain remover.

Disinfecting of these seats can be done in one of two ways. You can buy disinfectants in spray containers. You can spray the disinfectant on the seats on a daily, or weekly basis. If you have a waiting room in an area that is likely to see more sick people, like in a medical healthcare facility, the spray on disinfectant should be applied daily. Each afternoon when the facility closes you should have some-one go into the area and spray the disinfectant on the seats to prevent the spread of germs, and infectious diseases. The seats should be allowed to air dry before anyone uses them.

You can also use disinfectants that mix with water and are designed to be wiped on to the surface of the seats using a soft cloth. These disinfectants are usually stronger than the spray on varieties. It is recommended that you apply the wipe on disinfectant about once a week and then use the spray on variety each day. You can also get cleaners that have disinfectant in them, and combine the jobs of cleaning and disinfecting.

Wiping the disinfectant on with a soft cloth will take longer than spraying the surface. You should be sure and wear gloves to protect your skin during the process. Dip the cloth in the disinfectant, wring the excess water from the cloth, and then wipe every surface of the chairs with the damp cloth. You will have to repeatedly moisten the cloth again during the process. The seats should be allowed to air dry before anyone uses them after the disinfectant is applied.
