Importance of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)

Posted by PCTE on February 3rd, 2014

Ground Penetrating Radar, also known as GPR. It is an imaging technology that is used for almost all types of concrete or earth explorations. This device emits electromagnetic waves and detect the echoes that return from within the material to give a precise and detailed measurement about the subsurface structure and embedments. GPR is an ideal mapping system used in almost all construction areas such as tunnels, bridges, flyovers, airplane runways and many other surfaces to detect the obstacles found in the construction area.

The main functionality of the GPR device is to locate the Reinforcement, Post Tensioning, utility lines and other objects and developmental structures found on the way that may get damaged or disrupted if the ground is dug or drilled.

Types of Ground Penetrating Radar

There are different types of ground penetrating radars (GPR) and the application of each GPR differs from one to the other. The types of GPR found with the construction measurement devices shops online are:

  • Handy search GPR which is a compact GPR used for detecting concrete subsurface with lesser depth (300mm).
  • Conquest SL Miniature GPR – This is a non-destructive GPR used for mapping the concrete structures. It offers instant and fast on-site images using the on-board software and it is the best for conducting measurement in the concrete surfaces before drilling, coring, cutting or destructing it.
  • Conquest GPR – This is quite similar to the Miniature GPR but the functions of this device are expanded and it is more suitable for full-scale job.
  • TR – HF mobile GPR Kit–This is highly mobile and extremely accurate GPR device with refined measurement resolution. The full polar antennas of this GPR enable it to perform well even in toughest concrete surfaces.
  • Hi-Bright Ground Penetrating Radar – To survey larger areas, this GPR device can be used by the construction companies and development project managers. The application of this device varies from simple slabs, bridge decks or precast panels it can provide cover, slab thickness information, reinforcing layout and highlight any deterioration in the slab.
  • RIS MF Ground Penetrating Radar–This device is designed with modular concept for utility mapping application. This is the best non-destructive radar available in the market for evaluating earth surfaces.

To purchase GRP devices of all types and styles directly from the PCTEreview our selection online. Or give PCTE a call to discuss your application. We sell systems at affordable rates that can provide you with a new income stream. We can also demonstrate or trial our systems to you at your business or on site.

About the Company:

PCTE specialises in the sale and hire of Concrete Non-destructive Testing equipment. We supply a range of equipment from around the world to offer you a one stop shop with all of the latest equipment. Concrete Non Destructive Testing (NDT) refers testing the property of concrete, largely without damaging the concrete to assess some parameter which either directly or indirectly provides a required characteristic of the concrete or its embedment's. PCTE have a long history in the development and assessment of concrete testing equipment.
