Learn to sing or play music

Music is a very strong medium. It is a universal language. Whether you sing, play games, or just listen to music, everyone enjoys it. People disagree on genres and types of music, but one thing everyone can agree on is a love of music.

You may prefer to listen to Country music, gospel may be my favorite, another may insist on Rock and Roll music, but even in these mainstream genres there are many subdivisions. Take Rock and Roll, for example, when you say Rock and Roll music, you are including many different styles and types of Rock and Roll music. Motown, Metal, Punk, Pop, all these styles differ, and the way you play and sing this type of music will be unique.

When you reflect on Gospel music, there is Country Gospel, Bluegrass Gospel, Southern Gospel, and Contemporary Gospel. There's choir singing, quartet singing, solos, duets, and trios, and the way you sing and play each subdivision is going to be Asian American pop star.

The accompaniment is something else; Do you use just the piano, a guitar, a 4-piece band, a full orchestra, or just a cappella when you sing and play music?

All of these should be taken into account when choosing an instrument to play or deciding to sing. It would be a huge inconvenience to take a classically trained guitarist and put him in a bluegrass band. In the same vein, it would be unfair to a banjo picker to assume that they could play a punk rock or death metal rock and roll song.

The same applies to singers and also to singing. A country music singer might move on to the southern gospel music genre, but a gospel singer would have great difficulty singing a punk rock song effectively.

Some genres of music are closely linked and allow for crossover in both singing and playing, other styles require fundamental elements to be learned and practiced.

Therefore, one of the first things to determine when selecting to learn to sing or play music is which style or genre of music to focus on first. This really should be determined by the style or type of music you listen to. If you prefer heavy metal music, you would definitely not be satisfied or even interested in learning to play the guitar in the bluegrass style. If you like classical opera, you may not want to pick up a violin and try to learn how to play The Orange Blossom Special.

To keep their attention, you need to choose a style that suits your preferences. If you've been raised in the Church your whole life and prefer to listen to gospel music, you will find punk rock offensive. If Death metal is your concert, then gospel music is not going to appeal to you.

If you are going to learn to sing and play an instrument, if you are going to stick with it, it is imperative that you choose to learn a style of music that appeals to you individually.
