The biggest advantage of epoxy flooring is that it you can do the job yourself. Unlike some of the other flooring jobs this one here is rather easier and this is why we recommend that if you want to save money on getting your epoxy floor done you can safely go ahead on your own. You will probably take more time to finish the job than what an expert will take but the satisfaction once you are finished is massive.

Epoxy is a chemical that is procured from epoxy resins. It is mixed with a hardener to create a coating over the floor of your house. Once it settles down it creates a hard and durable layer over the floor surface and this layer can remain as it is for years. It is said that the best epoxy floor can last a lifetime and there is no exaggeration in this statement.

For epoxy flooring the floor surface first needs to be prepared. You need to get started with cleaning the floor. First all the items from the room need to be removed. This would include furniture and any other items that are there in the room. Once the floor is empty you may want to look for stains. Some stains can be easily cleaned by hard mopping and some could be very obstinate. If you are able to use a grinder or a sander or a sandblaster you can clean even the most stubborn stains. While the cleaning is done the floor surface becomes smooth and this creates the foundation for your epoxy floor.

One of the most important elements in preparing a floor for epoxy coating is to remove all the moisture. The best recommended way is to tape a plastic tarpaulin to the floor and let it be there for a day or two. Lift the plastic and see if there is any moisture on the underside. If there is moisture epoxy coating is not recommended. The epoxy bond will be broken by the pressure of the water and all your efforts will go in waste. If there is, however, no moisture then you can go ahead with the coating job.

To get started with epoxy flooring use a sander or grinder to make the floor smooth in appearance. If you don’t have these items the most rudimentary way is to use sandpaper on a mop to rub the entire floor surface with it. If there are cracks in the floor you can use epoxy filler. When the floor is smooth you can get started by applying the primer. For this you need to first cover the entire floor with a layer of water. Now apply the epoxy and spread it using a roller pin. Once the primer is dry apply a second layer of epoxy finisher. Let it set and your epoxy floor is ready.

This is how easy epoxy flooring is and this is why you can do it yourself. Your epoxy floor, once done, will last a lifetime.

Epoxy flooring is easy enough for you to do the job yourself. Once your epoxy floor is done you can rest assured it will last your lifetime.
