How To Make Your Home More Eco – Friendly in 4 Simple Ways

Based on the Code of Sustainable Homes rating system, most homes in the UK ( an estimated 30 million) got a D rating. All it will take to make your house eco-friendly are just simple adjustments in your heating, lighting, cooking, and these adjustments have a significant impact on the environment, your health and wellbeing, and your bank account. 

The benefits of an eco-friendly house are humongous, and they include;

There are four simple things you can change to get a more eco-friendly house.

Heating System – a simple way to make your house eco-friendly is by switching your heating system. You can choose between a boiler, heating pump, or a solar thermal. With boilers, you can fuel it either with gas, biomass, electricity or oil. Heat pumps have meagre energy consumption which makes them very eco-friendly and eliminates the need for gas pipes and oil tanks. A cleaner alternative is the solar thermal which uses the heat from the sun to boil water without providing combustion and removes the need for oil and gas. 

Insulation – installing loft insulation of 250mm or more, installing wall and ceiling insulation will drastically reduce your energy consumption and heating cost. 

Lighting – merely switching to LED lights is one of the quickest and fastest ways to save power and energy. The LED bulb far outlasts the conventional lightbulb and can save you up to £170 during its lifetime. 

Cooking – switching to a pressure cooker is another way. A pressure cooker reduces cooking time by 70%.
