Tips for efficient and safe electric fencing

In order to function properly, electric fences must form a complete circuit when a person or animal comes in contact with it. This circuit begins with a power source, which can be a battery or mains. The source sends electricity to a power supply, which converts the electricity into a pulse. The pulse travels along the wire, band or network, and if it is high enough in voltage, a person or animal will feel an electric shock when they touch the fence. This is because by touching the fence, they complete its electrical circuit. After moving through the person or animal, the pulse continues towards a ground pole, which is an electricity terminal buried in the ground.

Usually, the pulse is designed to simply shock or frighten the animal or person so that they do not try to go beyond the limit set by the electric fence. If the pulse does not have sufficient force, it is not felt, and if it is extremely strong, it can cause personal injury or even death. For a shock to penetrate an animal's hard skin and thick hair, it must have at least two thousand volts in strength. The effect of a shock is determined by tension, but also by the force with which the pulse moves, and by the physical relationship between the person or animal, the fence and the surface on which they stand. For example, it is well known that wearing shoes with a rubber sole can reduce the impact, because rubber is an insulator, which means that electricity has problems flowing through it. Other common insulators include glass, wood, rubber and air. In contrast, electricity moves easily through conductors. Common conductors include copper, silver, gold and aluminum.

Electric fences are thus usually made of steel wire. This cord can be extremely thin or thick, but must be smooth. Although it is possible to electrify barbed wire, it is generally not a good idea. Animals can all too easily get entangled in barbed wire, and adding electricity to this can have some pretty awful results, including extended physical pain, severe injury, and even death.

When building Safe Electric Nationwide Ltd fences, it is actually quite important to choose high quality wire. Electric fencing does not require much maintenance and lasts on average up to twenty years, especially if the materials are initially strong and durable.

When it comes to choosing an energizer, you have a number of options, including battery and solar powered devices. It is recommended to choose an energizer with a slightly higher voltage than what you expect to need, as you can then deal with unforeseen problems without having to make a new purchase. In addition, a more powerful energizer will also allow you to expand your fence at a later date if you need it.

Finally, many problems with electric fencing are the result of inappropriate ground systems. It is important to use the correct ground pile that is securely fastened. Remember that electric fences often require a large ground system under extra dry conditions with extra inserts at regular intervals.
