Draw A Squirrel

To vary the pleasures a little, I have prepared a small drawing animal sketching session for you. We are going to see together how to draw a squirrel step by step, by trying, at first, to understand the structure of the animal. There are many anatomical peculiarities in this rodent. The folded legs and the shape of the fingers, for example, make this study interesting.

Some important points for making a dynamic and lively drawing

Even if I went a bit quickly at the beginning, the first advice I give you for making this ideas drawing a success is to sketch the animal. The slightly 3/4 position is quite complex to render, and understanding how the squirrel is structured morphologically is essential in this case. As I said in the introduction, the shape of the legs (folded over on the visual) and the fingers are among the things to take into account.

Second important point: the coat. I know that many of you are asking yourself questions about the technique to use to make it a pretty fur. Since it was about doing a quick sketch, in this video tutorial I did not go into details. For those of you who would like to know more, here is a tutorial that I did especially on the subject.

In the meantime, here is a little advice for drawing tutorial for beginners: first of all, take into account the direction of the hair, and try to have a jerky pencil stroke, to render the hair effect correctly. With a little practice, you will find the right to move quite easily.

Last important point for your drawing: the contrast. Take a good look at the variations in color in the hair and try to make it look as good as possible. Also, vary the pressure on the contours and the hair in certain places, you will thus obtain a much more lively and dynamic result.
