Salads do require a dressing for lubrication and for adding taste dimension to its texture. Many vintage salad dressings are used with menu options for years. You can also buy a range of salad dressings from the market and use it with your meals. If you wish to make them at home with just a little effort, you can create them with the purity content intact with the dressings.

There are many types of salad dressings that you can create and can avail of their nutritional value. We have chosen here oil-based salad dressings as they are composed of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These unsaturated fats are quite good at lowering down LDL cholesterol. These oils also consist of Omega-3 fatty acids and play a significant role in reducing the risk of heart diseases. Other than oils, the oil-based dressings consist of various other antioxidants like citrus, vinegar, pureed berries, nuts, spices, and garlic. These ingredients are quite well-versed with the heart benefits and help in being healthy.

Heart-related benefits attached with salad dressing:

For improving heart health, you can replace less healthy or unhealthy fats, such as being found in red meat, processed junk food, or butter, with healthy varieties. Many oil-based salad dressings are prepared in combination with olive oil, known to be quite rich in unsaturated fats and are linked with reducing the risk for heart diseases. This is why the Food and Drug Administration has allowed olive oil to state on its bottle that consuming two tablespoons a day can help them reduce the chances for cardiac diseases. Other ingredients like walnuts and flaxseed oil are also rich in Omega-3 fatty acids that can minimize the risk of heart diseases.

Some of the ingredients like vinegar are present in almost all oil-based dressings. The ratio of oil and vinegar may vary from dressing to dressing and will depend upon the brands chosen and the consumers' taste preferences.

Vinegar and Oil

There is no exact ratio for the vinegar to oil in any oil-based dressing for the salad. If you like to have any particular flavors, oils, vinegar, or additional ingredients can affect the dressing mixture. To have a bit of an idea, start adding 1/4th teaspoon of vinegar for a tablespoon of oil, and then you can tweak the other ingredients quantity until your mixture tastes good as desired by you.

You can also mix heart-healthy oils like olive, pumpkin seeds, canola, and flaxseed with various kinds of vinegar, including red wine, balsamic, kurusu, cider, and sherry. To add creativity, try pairing garlic with mustard, soy with ginger, or raspberries with walnuts.

Antioxidants:

Consumption of foods rich in antioxidants is significant as they neutralize other foods or chemicals' damaging effects. Vegetables, spices, nuts, herbs, and berries are considered one of the best sources of antioxidants. Generally, the head of significant antioxidants is the least processed oils. Flaxseed oil is an excellent source of antioxidants and is also known for the presence of lignin. Kuruso or black rice vinegar is composed of many polyphenols compared to the other vinegar.
