Long-tail keywords, still relevant

Keyword research and SEO optimization usually have one specific end goal: increasing sales. However, long-tail keywords are shunned by many companies who do not know the benefits.

Long-tail keywords VS Generic keywords

The first instinct in keyword research is to go for so-called generic keywords.

We can think of simple words like "hotel" or "sweater". These keywords get a lot of traffic regularly. We can add a word for more precision: "women's sweater". It's still very generic.

When you specify more with a phrase of three words or more, you get long-tail keywords. These more specific keywords are less searched on average and are therefore less interesting at first glance. However, they are very important in an SEO strategy to implement a good strategy to get SEO services in Pakistan.

Benefits of the long tail

More general keywords like "hotel" are good for branding, notoriety. However, they are very broad and can bring a lot of unqualified and irrelevant traffic to a site.

Think about your own experience on Google.

According to MOZ, more than 70% of searches are done with long-tail keywords.

1. Easier SEO

By choosing long-tail keywords, you will have significantly less competition and, therefore, much more chance to climb to the top of the results. The 5th page for "hotel" is pointless; very few people can carry out their study this way. By targeting keywords to get a lot of traffic, the result may be the opposite. You'll get a lot more hits if your site appears in the top 10 results for a long-tail keyword targeting precisely what you're offering!

2. A better conversion rate

Because the keywords are more specific, people are more likely to find what they're looking for and convert. The prospects are also of better quality. Their more precise research means that they are further along in their buying process.

Window shopping doesn't just happen in stores; it's also online. You will have less traffic but more conversions!

How to choose your long-tail keywords?

Who says long tail does not say an expression of 10 words! Although we speak of the long tail, using 3 to 4 words is sufficient.

This is to clarify your offer. What will customers look for and find on your website?

Add more and more precise details to the brand and the specificities of the product.

Example:

  • Shoe => high heel shoe => high heel white shoe
  • Shoe => high heel shoe => high stiletto heel shoe
  • Shoe => high heel shoe => high heel man shoe

Remember, you can also take advantage of local searches if your product or service is served for a specific region.

Example:

  • Maintenance => commercial maintenance => commercial maintenance Quebec

You can use tools like Google's Related Search, which appear at the bottom of search results pages and suggest popular long-tail keywords.

You can also get inspiration from the keywords in Google Search Console and the Google AdWords keyword planner.

Finally, there is always the option of planning the purchase of your keywords in an AdWords campaign to test and validate the conversion rate and traffic coming from your keywords before you jump into your SEO efforts. In this case, remember to use the exact match keywords.

So would you prefer a conversion rate of 1% and 1,000 visits to your site or a conversion rate of 10% and 500 visits to your site?
