According to the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, it is required to maintain an asbestos register and an asbestos management plan. Even though these two documents are very similar, there are several differences that make both of them compulsory. While asbestos registers are the documents where you record the place where asbestos was found, the management plans record the process that is carried out when you are dealing with asbestos.

Dealing with asbestos is already a big headache, but you should not forget about all the compulsory documents imposed by law. The person that is in charge with the management or control of a workplace must make sure that all the information - from the location of the toxic substance to the procedure that is carried out by the specialists during the removal – is recorded in an official document.

Asbestos registers and asbestos management plans may seem very similar and you are probably wondering why is it necessary to write both of them during the same procedure. However, the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 requires both of them to prepared at the same time. each of these documents focuses on different aspects of the process at the workplace.

An asbestos register is a document that records a set of details concerning the asbestos that has already been identified or is assumed to exist at the workplace. First of all, in this document, the person in charge should take note of the location where the toxic material was discovered. Another important aspect that is written in an asbestos register is the type of asbestos identified. There are six different sub-types of this toxic mineral and their nature can have a big influence on the procedures that should be carried out next.

The last thing that should be recorder in a register is the condition of the mineral. Keep in mind that these documents must be kept up to date and they should be filled while the process takes place. Of course, if there is any change in the management, the registers must be passed on. If you need help with these documents, a specialist from Airsafe can give you a hand. They will use an asbestos survey to find out all the necessary information in order to create a register suitable for you.

The asbestos management plan records information concerning the decisions taken during the procedure of managing asbestos. Moreover, this document is also meant for noting the general procedures and control measures established at the workplace. It should also record information about the steps that should be followed in case of an incident. They should as well be kept up to date and reviewed every five years.

If you have not identified asbestos at your workplace when you had a previous asbestos survey, you will not need an asbestos register. however, if you need help with asbestos registers, do not hesitate to contact Airsafe, a company that has been working in this industry for more than 30 years.
