Abstract art makes use of a visual language of line, color, and form to create artworks that may exist with a certain level of freedom from visual references in the world. From the Renaissance till the mid part of the 19th century, Western art had been corroborated by the logic of perspective and an endeavor to present an illusion of seeable reality. By the end of the nineteenth century, several artists experienced the requirement to present some new form of art that would cover the prime alterations and modifications in the realm of philosophy. The artists extracted their theoretical arguments from diverse sources that brought into the surface the social as well as intellectual preoccupations in various domains of contemporary Western culture. The popularity of abstract painting has not waned till today. Like the abstract paintings, the photo based painting is also popular in the present times.
Full-fledged abstract painting started in Europe in the earlier part of the 1900's. It is in the 1940s that abstract art was created in the United States. It is during the abstract expressionism movement that this form of art arrived in America holding the hands of Jackson Pollock.
Abstract paintings are open to interpretation, and this is one of the positive aspects of abstract art. Abstract does not declare its subject matter. When assessing an abstract art, you enjoy the liberty to explore the artwork and choose to interpret it in your own way. The process of interpreting an abstract artwork is intensely personal and it, no doubt, enriches the experience of the viewer.
