Modern art has surpassed boundaries that were never imagined of earlier. Today, besides the traditional forms, one is sure to bump ijnto things that are out of the box but are championed by the modern artists. Not many are aware of ‘art mirrors’ that has imparted to painting a new dimension. From facial features of humans to beautiful landscapes, all are reflected in strategically placed mirrors and appear as realistic photos painted on canvas. These are called mirror paintings. A typically spontaneous and creative outlet of conventional patterns of producing artworks, this type of exhibit combines poetry and printmaking and is a challenge on the part of those creating it. In fact car painting is a new addition that applies the art of this artistic mirror work.

Most artists are well aware of the requirements of modern art. The use of car paint, automotive art and vintage paint makes for wonderful car paintings that witness a seemingly large audience. What captivates the mind of most art lovers is that many artists have been increasingly making use of optical illusions to lend a different feel to these creations. Some compositions have used innovative concepts in their work like layers of wax to protect it from external surroundings. This gives a clear idea that merely using water colors, oil paints and even acrylic is not enough to bring larger than life pictures of cars. By applying spray paints on the art created, the dynamics of painting on cars has undergone a rapid transformation. A new trend that has taken several car painting lovers by storm is the dual effect that includes the canvas painting of a today different color or a combination of colors and a good tone on the vehicle itself. This is a distinct pattern and has become an instant hit.

For a brief history about mirror paintings, it can be transcended to a time that belonged to Michelangelo Pistoletto. He conducted a series of experiments to achieve the highest degree of objectivity that characterizes these paintings. To make the background more reflective, he tried using aluminum sheets that he had applied to the canvas. Ultimately, he identified mirror-finished steel as the best material. Somehow he felt that using photography would enhance the objectivity in the figure. This led him to apply cutout photographic images directly to polished steel. But later he discarded it for he felt that the photo appeared as an inserted object that was in high contrast to the immateriality of the reflected image. Not just that, even the normal mirror was discarded as it brought in problems for the thickness of the glass. This was the early point of paintings made on mirror. In the present age, it has transformed drastically and made a huge aesthetic appeal for art patrons.

In the contemporary art scenario, mirror paintings have assumed immense importance. Many art lovers who keep these in their home, boasts of a beautiful display that each piece of the canvas fascinates only to contribute more to the overall arrangement.
