Everything you should know about the PCB Connectors

The PCB or the Printed Circuit Boards are one of the most essential parts of any electronic device. Be it the smallest electronic device or the biggest airplanes, find the Printed Circuit Boards everywhere. Just like the cables, the PCBs require the connectors to connect the multiple modules. It can be the other components or just the other Printed circuit board. The PCB connectors are different from the cable connectors, as they are quite small and delicate.

If you are someone dealing with electronics, then you should know more about the PCB connectors. In this post, we are sharing detailed information about the PCB connectors. With this information, you’ll get every bit of knowledge you want about the same.

What is a PCB?

The Printed Circuit Board is the most basic electronic component. The Printed Circuit Board is the board with all of the connection points and the bus lines to carry the signals to different components. The printed circuit board has the copper lines, which carry the signals and electricity to the different parts soldered one the same. It’s the most basic part, and without the PCB, connecting the bunch of small components like the capacitors, coils, and others would become impossible.

Types of PCB Connectors

The PCB connectors are used to connect the other PCB’s or additional accessories. Interconnecting the multiple PCBs or the other devices is possible with the PCB connectors. Here are the different types of PCB connectors that you’ll find useful.

#1 - Vertical Connectors

The Vertical PCB connectors are the most common ones. The Vertical connectors, if you want to use to interconnect the PCBs, then you should get the Male and Female ones too. The Male connector should be soldered on the one PCB, and the Female plug should be soldered on another PCB to complete the connection. Also, you can use the Male connector to connect the other devices using the cable plug.

#2 - 90-Degree Connectors

The 90-Degree connectors are quite special. You can find such connectors on PCB in the high-end electronic devices. Open up the LCD TV, and you’ll find multiple such connectors. It’s the special type of connector that helps you connect the other PCB in a 90-degrees angle. Not just the motherboard and the daughterboard, but you can connect the other compatible components with the same.

#3 - Female Connectors

The female PCB connectors are also known as the Sockets for interconnects. The female connectors hold the pins of the male connectors. For connecting the external components to the motherboard or the daughterboard, the Female connector with the extension cable is advised. The connection of the Male connector on the board and the female connector socket is quite strong, helping you maintain the connection and use the external components with ease.
