Although today most video game enthusiasts have their sights set on the future, with the PS5 and XBOX Series X ready to go beyond the limits of console games, those of us who already comb gray hair knows that the best games ever created were for consoles from the 80s and 90s.

Consoles like the NES, Super NES, and Sega Genesis are classics that never die or will die and, for many, they are key to their childhood and first contact with a world of Free Online Games that no longer resembles that.

The end of the past decade has been starring Nostalgia. Not only at the film level, with the return of great sagas like Jurassic Park or Jumaji or on TV, but series like Stranger Things are also causing fury. The retro consoles released in "mini" format have also been popular, allowing a thirtysomething place of the best times to remember and younger discover how we played once.

All of these consoles may be retro, but there's no reason they can't bring you as much joy now as they did in your youth. Nintendo, Sega, and Sony bet on this, which is why they almost exclusively star in the list of best retro consoles that you can find today on the market.

Here are five of the best mini consoles on the market.

First of all.

The launch and subsequent success of the NES Classic Mini in 2016 fueled the whole mini-console craze, mostly because it was initially so hard to come by. But the great news is that it was Nintendo itself who started this trend, supported by the great video game developers.

This NES Classic Mini comes preloaded with 30 games, including the incomparable Super Mario Bros. 3, Excitebike, and the first The Legend of Zelda game. All those games that marked an era and made our parents desperate for the "wasted hours" in front of the TV that their children spent with "the little machine."

To bring the SNES Classic Mini to life, Nintendo essentially took the NES Classic Mini hardware and loaded it with a bunch of its 16-bit era games. On this occasion, the console that unleashed the madness in stores, even being resold for triple its price, comes loaded with 21 great classics from the Great N.

When someone asks about the best Nintendo games, if they are over 15 years old they will surely cite Super Metroid, Yoshi's Island, and A Link to the Past. These are just some of the games on this retro console that also has the incentive of allowing you to play the unreleased Star Fox 2.

How many other mini consoles can boast of releasing a new classic game?

Sega Mega Drive Mini

Reliving the time of competition between Sega and Nintendo, the Sega Mega Drive Mini takes on the SNES Classic Mini directly by doubling the bet, that is, offering the user 42 of its best games.

The list itself includes Ecco the Dolphin, Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 2, World of Illusion, and an ultra-rare version of Tetris.

PlayStation Classic

The console that changed the video game landscape just over 20 years ago has also received its corresponding Mini version.

The 3 previous consoles moved in the field of 8 and 16 bits but, as it happened with the original PS, this Sony PlayStation Classic makes the technological leap into the 32-bit era with its rich 3D worlds.

Unfortunately, some users were disappointed for two reasons: A short game list that, despite having titles like Fantasy VII, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, and Ridge Racer Type 4, makes many others miss. The second problem is a poorly performed emulation where games from different regions are mixed.

However, it still offers much of the PlayStation magic that we enjoyed in our living rooms in the late 90s.

And from the most modern, we go to the oldest. Unknown to many, the Atari 2600 was one of the most influential game consoles in history, popularizing the interchangeable game cartridge system years before it was common on Nintendo and SEGA consoles.

This retro console has nothing more and nothing less than 120 built-in games, with the iconic Pitfall, Space Invaders, Frogger, and Adventure. It is controlled with two included wireless joysticks that will take you back to the first era of video games.
