Hip hop clothing are what hip hop fans consider to be a genre of clothing associated with the music of hip-hop group as well as the culture and community it represents. Hip hop clothing is worn by people who are loosely affiliated with the music as well as the culture it represents. It can also be loosely associated with people who are identified as the consumers of hip-hop music and culture. For example, you may hear a hip hop musician talking about how they like a certain hip hop clothing or wear a particular brand of hip hop clothing. Hip hop clothing can also be loosely linked to popular brands or fashion houses such as Apple Bottoms or Phat. Hip hop clothing normally refers to tops, blouses and jeans, which are often designed by popular hip hop artists such as Ice Cube and Jay Z. The majority of these items are often made from a mixture of bright colors and unique patterns. They are often made from the finest fabrics available, but are often manufactured cheaply. A common theme in hip hop clothing is to wear clothes that are distinctive and non-retrogradeable, as this will make them unique in the eyes of the public and the fashion industry at large. Some examples of hip hop clothing include the Phat Farm T-shirt, which were originally created by the crew from Phat Farm, an urban clothing line; the Reebok Adi Rise basketball shoe, which were designed by the famous basketball player Allen Iverson; and the graphic tees that were originally created by the hip-hop artist Jay Z. Another type of hip hop clothing is called pre-teen, which is often associated with kids who are between the ages of ten and fourteen. Pre-teen hip hop clothing includes shirts, shorts, pants, socks and jewelry. Pre-teen fashion generally follows the style and trends set by children who are at that age. This type of hip hop clothing is more relaxed than that of adult hip hop clothing. The style of hip hop is also often discussed in relation to its political context. There are many songs that have been written to express political views, and hip hop is one of the most politically correct styles of music in the country. Much of the music is made to coincide with current events and political issues. For instance, the song, "Mickey's beat" by Luther Vandross describes the use of state-of-the-art weapons in war. Hip hop clothing can also be made to conform with the dress code imposed on the youth of a specific country or region. The exact cultural implications of hip hop clothing on a given culture may vary, depending on the local situation. For instance, a hip-hop culture in the inner city of New York would likely have a completely different style and fashion then the one that characterized hip hop clothing in other areas of the country. The same thing can be said for hip hop clothing meant to be worn by youths in the Midwest, such as that seen in Wisconsin or Iowa. In addition to the style and type of hip hop clothing that one can choose to wear, another aspect of hip hop clothing is the message that it conveys. Many popular hip hop musicians try to make their lyrics and music political in nature in order to create an audience that is passionate about hip hop music. The subculture of hip hop is similar to that of punk, in that some artists are known for saying controversial and irreverent things. However, certain groups of hip-hop fans go way beyond that. Some hip-hop artists have adopted the stance of anti-Americanism and have created videos and songs that are politically incorrect and in some cases anti-religious. Others have created videos and songs that attack certain corporations or those that are perceived to be supporting the policies of the government in the United States. Regardless of what hip hop dance clothing of hip hop clothing is being purchased or what messages are conveyed through it, the audience that buys it generally identifies with the meaning of the lyrics or the style of music being used. Thus, hip hop clothing often reflects a particular meaning and point of view. It is this point of view which separates hip hop from other types of popular music. Hip hop music and clothing are not simply statements of societal opinion. Instead, they are often works of art that are meant to bring about political, social and economic change. By owning hip hop clothing, one can not only get an individual to express their own political and social opinions, but also help to bring about change in their area of life.
