Red Maitreya Temple

Our first stop through our exploration of temples in Ladakh was at Red Maitreya Temple, which also draws plenty of crowds from across the globe. The colossal statue of Maitreya Buddha decorated with colorful murals will leave you mesmerized. Besides, the temple comprises beautiful paintings. It was built by king Tragspa Bumde and took us back into the history of Avaiokiteshwara, Buddha, and Mahakala, whose pictures are adorned in the wall. Vajra Bhairav Shrine

The might Vajra Bhairav Shrine is dedicated to the tantric deity of the Gelugpa sect. It is a Shiva temple that gathers a huge crowd. The temple’s interior comprises paintings older than 600 years and is also one of the oldest buildings in Spituk. There are also other temples in the vicinity surrounding this one, including Spituk Monastery, Mahakal Temple, and Spitul Gustor.

Sun Temple

Tara Temple

A visit to the Thiksey Monastery landed us at Tara Temple, a complete epitome of beauty and peace. It is dedicated to the goddess Tara, and one can find over 21 images of the goddess placed inside glass-covered wooden shelves.

Besides, the paintings on the wall, including Buddha, Tsong Khapa, Palden Lhamo, Padmasambhava, and Mahakala, are genuinely magnificent.
