International fashion week to return in December

Scrub the runway and dust off the stilettos. The Myanmar International Fashion Week 2017, the biggest fashion event in the country, will return this December for its fifth year.

John Lwin, the founder of Star Event Production, has been organizing the event since 2013 to promote and showcase the country’s fledgling fashion and modeling industry.

“I’ve been doing this event every year since 2013 and I try every possibility to make this event better and better.

In other countries, they do two fashion weeks every year but I still can’t make it because every year we’ve been busy just getting permits and finding sponsors for this one event,” said John Lwin.

This year, the runway will feature local designers including Mogok Pauk Pauk, May Myat Waso and Htay Htay Tin, as well as Thai designer, Davis. Fashion lovers will also see new designs from local brands and fabric houses.

“This year I’ll collaborate with Alvaasce fabrics from Thailand. I will feature three different types of designs: an evening gown, office uniforms and Myanmar traditional dress,” said May Myat Waso, a well known Myanmar designer who will be taking part in her second Myanmar Fashion Week in December.

She added, “All of my designs will be simple this year but people will see my painting design in some of the dresses in my collection for this fashion week”.
