VH1 hosts events in the major cities

Indians have been very fond of international music and pop culture. Every country has their own taste in music and entertainment, but Indians have been very accepting and experimental when it comes to music. Two decades ago the only means of listening to music used to be the radio. Now there are many television channels which are solely dedicated to music. There are a few channels in India like VH1 which is the Indian version of international music channels. VH1 India was launched in the year 2005. It not only showcases international music and reality shows but has also come up with Indian shows which have become really popular amongst the Indian audience.

The millennials have a very different taste when it comes to music. The channel focuses more on the softer and lighter side of music. VH1 has introduced various global music genres including reggae, hip-hop, pop EDM, punk, rock, and jazz to the Indian viewers. Today, VH1 has extended its range to include shows such as Catfish, VH1 Playlist, documentaries such as 'The Class of '92' and 'No Cameras Allowed', reality shows and much more. VH1 India also telecasts some of the women centric shows which were doing really well with the international audience. The channel also telecasts major international awards LIVE like the American Music Awards, World Music Awards, the Grammys, Video Music Awards, Europe Music Awards, Golden Globe Awards and the Billboard Awards.

There has been a growing trend of café and lounges in India. These lounges always have VH1 playing on their screens. The viewership has been steadily increasing with time. Although, the channel caters to a very niche audience, it has become very popular. About a decade ago, the audience was not experimental with their preferences in terms of music and the industry as a whole.

Apart from television shows, the brand also hosts a couple of events in the different cities of India. VH1 hosted the biggest dance music festival. It has also given opportunity to home grown independent artists through vh1 supersonic Sound Nation which is a multi-genre musical extravaganza. It also hosts parties on different occasions in different cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad. All these live shows, concerts and festivals are telecast on television channel later on. This has raised awareness about such events and people from all over the country, and even from other countries, travel to different locations to be a part of such events.
