TikTok Nothing General About It: Be Specific In Your Content Creation

Posted by Saaili Surendran on April 25th, 2019

TikTok is a popular app which has millions hooked to it. It allows users to create and share short and fun videos that redefines entertaining content. It could be a person enacting a popular scene from a movie, or a funny dog video where the animal’s personality is enhanced through a crazy filter.

When it comes to sharing content on social media, it is important to be specific and TikTok has got it right here. It allows users to upload short videos of themselves. It is specific, short and easy to use for the creator of the video as well as for the viewers.

The app gives an opportunity to everyone to be a video creator without having any professional knowledge. Users can use different tools like filters, control over video speed, stickers and access professional audio in order to create a fun video. And remember, engagement is the key to do well.

While you can post general content on TikTok, the trick is in the specificity. In order to stay relevant, it’s ideal to do the following things:

Select the right hashtags

Social media is about selecting the right hashtag, and TikTok is no different. When Arnold Schwarzenegger joined TikTok App, he started the hashtag #likearnold instead of focusing on #workout or #fitness. While you’re not Arnie, you can be a TikTok superstar by creating unique hashtags. So, instead of #fitness, you could just say #goingxtreme.

Tiktok

TikTok Tip: Do not abuse hashtags (for example, don’t place captions on videos with specific hashtags that aren’t relevant to the content). The most relevant tagged videos will be favoured for discovery.

Create a sense of community amongst your fanbase

You can call your fans a specific name. For example, Beyonce's fan group is called Bey-hive. Similarly, you could create your own fanbase and build on that.

Establish your identity

Ensure your profile communicates your identity, your interests, and the type of content you share. For example, if you're a dog lover and are going to post TikTok videos about your pet, then ensure that the videos you put are only about your dog. Animal videos generally do well online.

Create a content strategy

Post three TikTok videos a week, with a specific focus i.e. what you like doing. This could be a pet video, a workout video, or you are engaging in a crazy activity. Next, focus on one post a week that contains some unique content; this could be a challenge.

Entertain

Give people a reason to follow your page and watch more of your videos. Create content that makes people feel something and want to share with their friends. Add the element of awe, surprise, and humour in your video and get more likes and views.
