LEARNING WITH TECHNOLOGIES IN INDIA

The Indian educational landscape is fast-changing with technology gripping the nation in an unprecedented fashion. An ultra-modern mixture of education and technology is coming to surface. Every student has a unique set of requirements. One who is good with retention might need a teacher's help to better or improve their analytical skills. While another who understands topics easily might need constant revision.

Schools are undergoing a major transformation as they undergo a transition to a digital learning environment. From cell phones to i-Pods and i-Pads, young children are using technology to learn and move ahead. This format of education is helping all categories of students to learn more flexible and including difficult subjects like mathematics, which could be learned effectively with the use of technology. The government has been emphasizing on e-learning in all schools, but the biggest challenge is of sourcing multimedia content which is regularly reused and updated.

There are various types of technology currently used in classroom-like Interactive Smartboards, mobile devices, wireless classroom microphones etc. Despite this India shall face few problems for the incorporation of new technology in education like not enough or limited access to computer hardware/software in education institutes; lack of adequate technical support for educational institutes; students and teacher do not have access to necessary technology at home.

On the contrary, many negative facts about new technology are evident if used in education e.g. the misuse of copy and paste, loss of privacy and profiling, deviation from reality etc. In India, while educational technologies have been taken quite seriously in preparing students for job markets, it still needs to be introduced from junior levels so that students become computer savvy at the young age.

Lastly, technology has enormous potential, it is critical how is it integrated with pedagogy.
