Everything you need to know about Venetian Plaster

Venetian plaster refers to a plaster material which was used centuries ago in ancient Italy and Greece. It was developed as people there wanted a solution for the furniture and walls covered with molds. Over the years, plenty has changed but one thing remains true that this plaster is the most versatile and luxurious for your homes.

In recent times, it is again loved by people to give depth and texture to the walls.

What is Venetian Plaster?

Venetian plaster contains marble powder and limestone. It is also called lime plaster since it is made of lime. The limestone rock is heated with water and converted into “lime putty”. This plaster can be applied to any wall or ceiling. Several layers of plaster are first applied to the desired area and then a trowel is used to give the surface the appearance of marble and limestone.

Advantages of using Venetian plaster for walls

Venetian plaster contractor creates unique patterns tailored as per your preferences. Although there are varieties of patterns to choose from, Venetian plaster has its range of benefits:

1. Venetian Plaster is made from lime, which makes it non-toxic. It will not emit any harmful substances in the air. It is also mold-resistant as it prevents bacteria growth on the surface.

2. There is a wide range of materials and techniques that can be used by plastering contractors to create different designs on the surface. They can turn an ordinary wall into a work of art.

3. Low maintenance- Due to several layers of plaster, the color gets absorbed into the layers very deeply. It is not like a final wall paint which needs to apply after a few years due to minor scuff. People claim that Venetian plaster gracefully ages over the years. This gives a more sophisticated and refined look which eliminates the need to paint.

4. Affordable- Venetian plaster gives the effect of marble as it is applied in thin layers. People who want the look of marble but can’t use due to budget constraints can easily switch to Venetian plaster. It is much affordable than marble and just a little bit higher on price than regular paint.

5. Flexible- Venetian plaster can be applied to surfaces like curved walls, corbels, or columns due to its flexible approach. Marble cannot be applied to such surfaces which makes Venetian plaster a great alternative.

6. Customizable- Venetian plaster can be colored or tinted using natural or artificial colors to match the building’s color palette. However, this cannot be achieved with normal marble as it is naturally found. Natural colors like beige, tan, grey can be achieved using Venetian plaster to add the warmth or coldness needed in the room.

7. Waterproof- Venetian plaster keeps the moisture out of the wall. This makes them last longer than the regular paint as the water is constantly drawn out of the surface.
