Spinal Fusion Devices are proving to be Critical in the Treatment Spondylodesis

Spinal fusion devices, also called intervertebral disc fusion devices, are used in the treatment of patients who have disc dysfunctions and other spinal disorders. These devices are surgically implanted within the spine, either directly onto the nucleus pulposus or through a small incision in the back. They provide traction to realign the spine and relieve pressure on the spinal nerves. This in turn relieves pain and improves range of motion. Spinal fusion devices have been very helpful to many patients who do not respond well to traditional treatments. These procedures have been recommended time again as the best option for patients with spinal deformities and other injuries affecting their ability to move. The procedures have been backed by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the American Academy of Physical Medicine (AAPM), and the National Institute of Health (NIA). They are classified as intervertebral discs because they are considered to be the nucleus pulposus of the spine.

Spinal fusion has evolved over the past few years, from where it began, which was within the orthopedic community, as a means to relieve spinal pain for those with spinal deformities. This type of procedure became more refined to treat different spinal conditions and injuries.
