Helpful Carpet Cleaning Tips From The Pros

Posted by Andrew Nicholls on February 2nd, 2021

Even though there are a huge amount of different kinds of flooring materials out there, carpets are still widely used. For me personally, I like the look and feel of carpet over other materials like wood, stone, tile, and laminate. Not only that but its warmth and softness are something I think most of us enjoy. Carpets also require less maintenance and upkeep compared to other hard surface floorings. Vacuuming and the odd deep clean are all that's needed to extend the life and look of your carpet.

Unfortunately, accidents do happen and can make a mess on your carpet. Luckily for you, our friends over at White Rock Carpet Cleaning have some helpful tips you can use to help with life's little accidents.

  1. Regularly Deep-Clean - Steam cleaning is a great way to maintain the look and feel of your carpeting. The process includes using pressure to shoot a cleaning solution deep into the carpet. The steam cleaning machine then sucks out all the cleaner and dirt along with it. Hot steam and water are excellent at loosening all the debris from your carpet so you're left with nothing more than a nice clean, great-smelling floor. You want to do this at least once or twice a year if you want the best results.
  2. Use Organic Cleaners For Pet Stains - We love our pets but sometimes they make a mistake and leave our carpets unappealing to the eye and the nose. But that's ok it's not hard to fix. Simply spray the cleaner directly on the accident site, scrub away the stain and odor making sure to use a white cloth or paper towel. The good news is these organic cleaners can also be used on other stains.
  3. How To Remove Blood - Blood is probably one of the most difficult stains to remove. Fortunately, we have a superhero for just this. Hydrogen peroxide to the rescue! You start by loosening up the blood with a mixture of water and a light detergent. Then use a butter knife to scrape off as much blood as you can. For whatever is left use the hydrogen peroxide, wait a few minutes for it to do its magic than simply blot up the excess blood with a white cotton rag or even a white paper towel will do.
  4. Candle Wax - Candles are a good way to set the mood or they can be used to freshen up the air with a nice scent. What isn't good is when it spills onto your carpet. A great way to treat hardened wax on your carpet is to heat it up to make it soft and easier to deal with. You do this by placing a clothes iron on top of a white cloth until the wax melts enough for you to scape off with a butter knife. This can be a little tedious but it works.
  5. Blot over rub - When we see a stain on our rug we instinctively want to take the aggressive approach and scrub the heck out of it. This would be a mistake. The stain would just be pushed down deeper into the carpet making it harder to get out and putting unnecessary wear and tear on your carpeting. Blotting is the key to success. Gently dab the stains with an organic cleaner and a sponge, cloth, or paper towel.
