Some Effective Ways of Using Hole Saws

Specialized equipment allows us to do our jobs quickly and efficiently. For drilling a hole, there are different types of equipment available in the market. Each one of them has its advantages and disadvantages. But, there is one tool that is perfect for drilling big diameter holes. With the help of this tool, you can produce clean holes. The tool we’re referring to is a hole saw. Bi-metal hole saws for metal are considered some of the best hole saws in the market as they allow you to drill extra deep holes quickly. Although hole saws are effective tools, the problem with them is that they are not so easy to use.

In this article, our aim is to help you learn how to use a hole saw for drilling holes. We have listed down some points for this purpose. Let’s take a look at them.

  • When it comes to increasing the size of existing holes, there are certain things you need to do. For normal drilling needs, a center pilot bit is employed to make the hole saw pass through the workpiece. But when you have to increase the size of an existing hole, this pilot bit is not useful as it contains nothing to drill into. So, what you should do in this case is that to represent the precise centre of the already drilled hole, make horizontal and vertical lines. Now, use a piece of plywood and fix it on the existing hole. After this, move the hole’s center lines onto this plywood. Once all of this is done, you need to put the pilot bit of the hole saw on the point of intersection of two centerlines and produce a bigger hole by drilling through the plywood.

  • Users often face the problem of blow out, which is a rugged, splintered surface that gets produced when the hole saw exits the cut. You can avoid this problem by doing two things. First is, you can fix a scrap board on the workpiece’s backside and drill through that. The second way is, you can drill from one side a bit and then complete drilling the hole from the opposite side.
  • Hole saws are perfect for drilling through the wood as well as metal. When you need to produce a hole on a metal surface, it is advised that you use cutting oil on the hole saw to provide proper lubrication. This is recommended because using this oil brings down friction and removes metal chips from the kerf.

If you need to get top-quality hole saws such as carbide tipped hole saw for metal or bi-metal ones, then you can visit some top websites online that sell all types of hole saws. At such websites, you will also get top quality hot tap cutters as well.
